chase Report
The pictures above are two snapshots from the custom weather software
developed for the "WeatherLab" portable weather station. The right
image shows all plots including pressure and temperature while the left
picture is the barometric pressure plot of the eye and eyewall of the
storm passing over our location in Punta Gorda. Winds speeds were not
recorded for equipment and personnel safety. The barometric pressure
has been acquired through the lap-top serial interface to the weather
stations display for a period of several hours. The pressure display, in
millibars (mb) is green to the left and plotted by the green line. The plot
clearly shows the rapid decrease then increase in barometric pressure
from a 1005 mb to a minimum to 943 mb then a rapid subsequent
increase there after. Note the eyewall marked by the intense pressure
gradient and direct correlation in a slight temperature increase during
the lowest pressures (tropical cyclones are WARM CORE lows).

- Intense Category 4 Hurricane Charley Chase
Hurricane Charley DVD Giveaway - Now Throught March 22, 2007 -
Our chases intercept of deadly Category Four Hurricane Charley will
always be remembered. This is one hurricane that really put a scare in
our group during the storm.

This area shows pictures taken from the observations of major and
devastation category-four hurricane Charley in Southwest Florida in
Charlotte County. The storm, originally a tropical disturbance that
moved off Africa, formed in the Caribbean, crossed Cuba, and moved
into the extreme southeastern Gulf Of Mexico. On Friday, August 13,
2004 it moved NNE past Key West and slammed into Sanibel Island
then Punta Gorda just after explosive intensification to 145 MPH
sustained winds with gusts over 175 MPH and a central pressure of 941
MB with an eye only 6 miles across. This hurricane interception began on
the forward-right quadrant of the hurricane and involved eyewall then
eye penetration in a solid structure, the Criminal Justice Courthouse of
Charlotte County. Most of Punta Gorda had severe damage from the
storm.
