Hurricane Frances intercept took place on Hutchinson Island and Ft Pierce
Beach, Florida on September 4-5, 2004. On the 4th we spent most of the
day on the beach as the first hurricane force winds moved onshore.
Frances was moving very slow. We documented the western half of the
eye for over 12 hours as Frances slowly moved inland.
As the evening of the 4th continued our winds increased and we started
to encounter the stronger winds of the eyewall. By 11pm we were
recording winds nearing 100mph with higher gusts on the barrier island
of Hutchinson Island.
Around 1am we encountered the calm of Frances eye south of Ft Pierce,
FL with a pressure reading of 960MB's. On the 5th we remained in the Ft
Pierce area filming damage and flooding.
