Gulfport - Biloix, Mississippi
After intercepting Hurricane Katrina in South Florida along the Ft
Lauderdale beaches as she just developed into a category one
hurricane we rested for a few days and then departed for the Gulf coast.
Jim Edds and Chris Collura flew a recon mission with NOAA around
Katrina in the central Gulf the day before we departed for the Gulf coast
target area. Photo 1
Chris Collura and Jeff Gammons met up with Jim Edds at a location
right along the Gulf waters inland by a block or so. The area was perfect
for chasing and documenting massive storm surge since the building
had 3 levels and ramps to elevate our cars from the surge if need be.
This was the Mississippi Convention Center located between Gulfport
and Biloix, Mississippi.

to near Hurricane
Force and the power
was out. As the

surge. At first the surge was slowly pushing closer to our location. Then we
went from 60-80mph winds to white out conditions and winds 100-110mph
with a fast rising surge.
At this point we filmed the surge in awe and noticed very impressive
debris racing towards us with boats, cars, homes, tree's and just about
everything. This is when the surge really starts to rush in and we start
pulling back towards the building.
