TROPICAL DEPRESSION NINE: At 11:00am ET Sept. 12th - Tropical Depression Nine was moving slowly northward towards the northeast Gulf states. The National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL issued Tropical Storm Watches for the Florida Panhandle westward to Mississippi. The Depression is forecast to reach tropical storm status later today and warnings would have to be issued along the coast.
At this time its to early to know how strong of a storm TD/Hanna could become. Right now upper-level winds are shearing the system and keeping it from developing faster. The Hurricane Center at this time calls for a mild Tropical Storm to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle sometime on saturday. If upper-level winds can relax and thunderstorms can develop around the low-level center then the system could become stronger before landfall.
Chasing Possible Tropical Storm Hanna
Today Weathevine started gearing up for a weekend chase along the northeast Gulf of Mexico. With the system so close to our location and being a weekend, this will give us time to chase and intercept the storm at landfall. Its peak of the season and no Hurricane chases have taken place, so this is another reason for going and to help test out some new gear and toys. At most this should be a Tropical Storm Chase with winds no more than 60mph, but that could change if the shearing relaxed.

-Who Is Weathervine?
"Weathervine" is a small group of weather and storm enthusiasts that have a passion to chase and intercept severe storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes on personal time.
Each year we travel to the Great Plains (tornado alley) for close to a month for tornado season. During the summer months we are based out of South Florida, our home, and intercept landfalling hurricanes in the Southeast United States.
Each year we can travel close to 18,000 to 25, 000 miles in search of severe weather. While in other locations of the United States we have other groups of storm chasers that travel along with us as storm chasing has a very close community of friends world wide.
